Sensory Over-Responsivity in ASD and Early Adversity (PI: Dr. Shulamite Green) (K08)

The purpose of this study was to examine brain and physiological responses to sensory stimuli across children with autism, children with early-life stress, and typically developing, non-adopted children. The results will help inform the development of more targeted and effective therapeutic interventions for children across neurodevelopmental conditions who have sensory processing challenges.

While sensory processing issues are common in autism spectrum disorder, these symptoms also affect individuals of several other groups. This study aimed to evaluate differences in how the brain and body habituates, or gets used to, sensory stimuli, in youth with autism, youth with anxiety disorders, and typically-developing youth.
